Christ is risen from the dead, trampling death by death, and to those in the tombs giving life.
Христос воскрес із мертвих, смертю смерть подолав, і тим шо в гробах, життя дарував.
Tropar, tone 7: While the tomb was sealed, O Christ God, You dawned as life from the sepulcher, and while the doors were shut, You came to Your disciples, the Resurrection of all, renewing a right spirit in us through them, according to Your great mercy.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and the Holy Spirit., now and forever and ever. Amen.
Kondak, tone 8: With his searching hand, Thomas explored Your life-giving side, O Christ God. For when You entered while the doors were shut, he called out to You with the rest of the Apostles: You are my Lord and my God!
Prokimen, tone 3: Great is our Lord and great is His strength; and of His knowledge there is no end.
verse (solo): Praise the Lord, for a psalm is good; may praise be sweet to our God. Great is our Lord and great is His strength; and of His knowledge there is no end.
Epistle: Acts of the Apostles 5: 12—20
At that time many signs and wonders were done among the people at the hands of the apostles. They were all together in Solomon’s portico. None of the others dared to join them, but the people esteemed them. Yet more than ever, believers in the Lord, great numbers of men and women, were added to them. Thus they even carried the sick out into the streets and laid them on cots and mats so that when Peter came by, at least his shadow might fall on one or another of them. A large number of people from the towns in the vicinity of Jerusalem also gathered, bringing the sick and those disturbed by unclean spirits, and they were all cured. Then the high priest rose up and all his companions, that is, the party of the Sadducees, and, filled with jealousy, laid hands upon the apostles and put them in the public jail. But during the night, the angel of the Lord opened the doors of the prison, led them out, and said, “Go and take your place in the temple area, and tell the people everything about this life.”

Alleluia Verse:
Solo: Come, let us sing joyfully to the Lord, let us acclaim God, our Savior. Alleluia (3x).
Solo: For God is the great Lord and the great king over all the earth. Alleluia (3).
Gospel: John 20: 19—31
On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. (Jesus) said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.” Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nail-marks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” Now a week later his disciples were again inside and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said, “Peace be with you.” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe.” Thomas answered and said to him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.”
Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of (his) disciples that are not written in this book. But these are written that you may (come to) believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through this belief you may have life in his name.
It is truly right… ДостойноThe Angel cried out to the One full of Grace: O chaste Virgin, Rejoice! And again I say, Rejoice! Your Son has risen from the tomb on the third day, and raised the dead. Let all people rejoice! Shine, shine, O new Jerusalem! For the glory of the Lord has risen upon you! Exult now and be glad, O Sion! And you, O chaste Mother of God, take delight in the resurrection of your Son.

Thomas Sunday
On the evening of that first day of the week the disciples had locked
themselves in a room because the were overcome with fear. They had
witnessed the extreme suffering and death of their Master. What was to
become of them? Were they going to be hunted down and dragged into
the streets of Jerusalem and crucified outside the city walls?
This fear had been turned into joy as Jesus came and appeared to them
through the locked doors. He said to them, “Peace be with you.” Then
He showed them his hands and His side. The peace that Jesus gave to
the disciples was not merely a calming peace but a kind of peace that
rests in the soul. He was offering that peace which can only be given by
Thomas was not present for this encounter with the risen Lord. He was
still living in fear and doubt. He was an unbeliever who said, “Unless I
see the marks of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nailmarks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”
Do we allow ourselves to live in fear and unbelief? Are we like Thomas?
It only took a brief encounter with the Lord to change his unbelief to belief. Thomas was confronted with the “One” who offers this inner peace.
As we face the troubles, fears and anxieties of the present world let us
seek out the “One” who can give us the peace we need. This peace can
only be given by a true faith in our risen Lord.

The faithful can continue to approach the Sacrament of Reconciliation/ Confession on an individual basis. Please contact Father Mark at 570.205.2053 to set up a time for confession. We will be maintaining the prescribed safe distance between priest and penitent.
When confession is not possible, faithful are encouraged to make Acts of Perfect Contrition, when a penitent sincerely regrets his or her sins, not merely out of God’s just punishment, but be-cause of having offended our Loving Lord. This year, the canonical obligation of going to confession in the season of Easter can be fulfilled in the period extending to the feast of Pentecost.
